Mark Hornsby is an award winning music producer, audio engineer, musician and writer.

Originally from East Tennessee, Mark grew up around audio engineering and music performance. Before graduating high school he was on staff in the production department of WJHL-TV, a CBS affiliate in Johnson City, TN.

Mark moved to Nashville at age 19 and started his first production company while pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Recording Production at Middle Tennessee State University. The company, Sound Star Productions, provided entertainment and live sound services to the Tennessee and Alabama areas. While in school, he also landed a position as an engineer at Seventeen Grand Recording on Nashville’s famed Music Row. Founded in 1995, Seventeen Grand had one of the first 5.1 high definition mix rooms in the country.

Mark became known for his quick editing and adaptation of the Pro Tools platform, which was relatively new at the time. He worked on numerous albums, concerts and television specials for artists like Garth Brooks, The Judds, George Strait, King Crimson, Allison Krauss, Travis Tritt, The Dixie Chicks and Steven Curtis Chapman.

Aside from working at Seventeen Grand, Mark did regular freelance audio engineering work around town-all the while continuing to run Sound Star Productions. Ultimately, this led to a working relationship with Nashville producer and session bass player Dave Martin. The two struck up a friendship and Mark helped Martin build Java Jive Studio on the north west side of Nashville.

In 2001,  Mark relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL after taking a job with Emtec/BASF as the Southeast Director of Sales for the U.S. and the Caribbean. While working for BASF and continuing to do production work from his home studio, Mark became acquaintances with entertainment attorney John F. Bradley and ended up teaming with him and purchasing Ridenour Studios, Florida’s largest (8,000 square feet) recording and rehearsal studios. During Hurricane Wilma of 2005, the studio was flooded and the roof was almost completely destroyed. Mark relocated back to Nashville in 2006 and the studio name was later sold to another party. Ridenour Studios’ clients included New Found Glory, Foreigner, Ricky Martin, Joey Kramer, Johnny Depp, Steve Winwood, and Vanilla Fudge, to name a few.

When returning to Nashville, Mark settled into Java Jive Studio, the same studio he helped Martin build years prior. Mark and Martin built out the secondary B studio as Mark’s private mixing suite and “home base”. Over the next six years, Mark would continue to work as a producer and engineer for indie artists and clients like the Kevin Gilbert Estate, Old Crow Medicine Show, Dolly Parton, Lifeway, Word Entertainment and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. In addition to working in Nashville, his work also took him on the road and around the globe to work in New York, L.A., Las Vegas, Dallas, Chicago, North Carolina, Alabama, Miami, Costa Rica, Scotland and London. In October of 2010, Mark was featured on the cover of Recording Magazine for his work at Abbey Road Studios.

During his travels, Mark has lectured at almost every major university offering music technology studies including Berklee, MTSU, Full Sail, Belmont, SAE, Indiana University, Purdue University, Ball State and NYU. He is a certified Pro Tools “Expert”, accredited by Avid and has also done consulting and marketing work for several pro audio equipment manufactures including ATC, Drawmer, Telefunken, Crane Song, Tube Tech, Daking and Massenburg Design Works.

Currently based out of Fort Wayne, IN, Mark is the Vice President of Operations and Senior Producer/Engineer at Sweetwater Studios which was featured on the January 2015 cover of Mix Magazine. Some of his recent credits include Jonatha Brooke, Peter Erskine & The Dr. Um Band, Carl Verheyen, Robben Ford, Russ Taff, Steve Hackett, Spocks Beard, Big Big Train, Tower of Power, Godsmack, Jing Chi, Addison Agen, Oz Noy, Fastball, Beth Hart, Billy Cobham and Adrian Belew.
